Educational Senior Support and Activity Centre 鈥淓DU-SOWA鈥�, operating at the University of 艁贸d藕 since 2023, is a place created for those who wish to spend their time actively. It was established out of the need of the heart 鈥� as an expression of care for the senior community, including retired employees of the University of 艁贸d藕.

We operate from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During this time, we make sure that each day brings something valuable:

• we help to maintain intellectual activity,
• we support the development of physical fitness,
• we teach new things,
• we conduct discussions,
• we share passions.

The most important for us are relationships, the sense of community, and the joy of being together.

At the University of 艁贸d藕 Senior Home, we create a safe and open space where one can develop their interests, maintain fitness, and 鈥� simply 鈥� feel good. Because age does not matter when one remains curious about the world and people.

The University of 艁贸d藕 has received funding from the European Union for the project 鈥淓stablishment of the Senior Club at the Senior Home of the University of 艁贸d藕 in 艁贸d藕鈥�, no. FELD.07.09-IP.01-0064/24-00.

The aim of the project is to provide services through the newly established Senior Club for people over 60 years of age from the 艁贸d藕 Voivodeship who need support in their daily functioning, with particular focus on retired employees of the University of 艁贸d藕, during the period from 1 September 2024 to 30 June 2027.

The tailored, personalized, and professionally prepared offer of the Senior Club at the University of 艁贸d藕 Senior Home aims to reduce barriers to accessing educational, integrative, and health-promoting activities, as well as to counteract loneliness and marginalization among people aged 60+.

As part of the Senior Club鈥檚 activities, the following tasks are planned for implementation:

1. Health-promoting activities and psycho-social support
2. Classes in cultural education and the development of creative interests
3. Classes in media education, including computer literacy and the use of the Internet and its latest tools
4. Educational and integrative trips, as well as shared occasional meetings
5. Educational and developmental biographical workshops

Thanks to the funding received, the University of 艁贸d藕 will increase both the number of services provided for seniors within the local community and the number of people aged 60+ covered by these services, compared to 2023 data. As a result, at least 200 people aged 60+ will receive individualized support during the 34 months of the project鈥檚 implementation. Seniors will acquire new knowledge and skills 鈥� including digital, artistic, musical, and health-related ones; they will improve their physical and mental well-being and integrate through trips and meetings. All planned activities will contribute to preventing loneliness and marginalization among the project鈥檚 participants.

The Senior Club is based at and conducts its activities in the University of 艁贸d藕 Senior Home, operating under the name Educational Senior Support and Activity Centre 鈥淓DU-SOWA鈥�, located at 66 Rewolucji 1905 r. Street, 艁贸d藕.

Activities within the project 鈥淓stablishment of the Senior Club at the Senior Home of the University of 艁贸d藕鈥� take place in Buildings 鈥淎鈥� and 鈥淏鈥�.

Building 鈥淎鈥� is single-story and has no thresholds. Doors and corridor spaces are sufficiently wide to accommodate wheelchairs.

Building 鈥淏鈥� is three-story. It is equipped with an elevator wide enough to allow wheelchair users (up to 70鈥�80 cm in width) to move between floors. The elevator entrance for wheelchair users is accessible from the courtyard. External doors have no thresholds.

University Senior Support and Activity Centre EDU-SOWA was established to provide support for older adults seeking a modern approach to the challenges associated with the aging process. Our goal is to offer holistic support to seniors.

During their daily stay, we provide both professional gerontological prevention and opportunities to strengthen intellectual, mental, physical, and spiritual resources. All of this is aimed at helping seniors remain as functional, independent, and self-reliant as possible in their daily lives.

The University Senior Support and Activity Centre EDU-SOWA offers all seniors the possibility of personalized education in health, physical activity, intellectual development, and interpersonal skills. We strive to integrate seniors into the community and involve them in local social life, particularly in intergenerational interactions.

An important objective of our Centre is to prevent marginalization, loneliness, and social isolation among older adults.

The Centre is part of the organizational structure of the University of 艁贸d藕, and its headquarters is located at 66 Rewolucji 1905 r. Street, 艁贸d藕.

The renovation and modernization of the University of 艁贸d藕 facilities at 66 Rewolucji 1905 r. Street in 艁贸d藕 were co-financed by the European Union, as part of project no. RPLD.06.03.02-10-0009/17 entitled: 鈥淩enovation and expansion with a change of use of University of 艁贸d藕 buildings for the purposes of the University of 艁贸d藕 Senior Home, located at 66 Rewolucji 1905 r.
